Abdominal pain is the pain and discomfort occurring in the abdomen. The abdomen is an anatomical area that is bounded by the lower margin of the ribs and diaphragm above, the pelvic bone (pubic ramus) below, and the flanks on each side. Even though abdominal pain may rise from the tissues of the abdominal wall, surrounding the abdominal cavity, the term abdominal pain mostly is used to describe the pain originating from organs within the abdominal cavity. Organs of the abdomen include the stomach, small intestine, colon, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. This can be either mild or severe. And may be short-lived (acute) or occur over weeks and months (chronic).

Treatment

- Take a warm bath or place a heating pad over the area. Useful for menstrual cramps.
- Try taking an over the counter pain medication. Instead of choosing ibuprofen and aspirin, go for acetaminophen products, as they less likely tend to cause irritation.
- Drink fluids to prevent dehydration and eat small meals. Choose mild foods and stay away from fatty foods, alcohol, caffeine and spicy choices.
