When liver's function is impaired to a greater extent it is called as liver failure. It can be the outcome of liver diseases if it is left untreated or ignored. Jaundice is one such liver disease that can turn out to be the cause of liver disease. This disease makes the liver unable to excrete the bilirubin from the body. It is not much of a concern when a baby is affected but however jaundice in adults is always a matter of great concern.
As the liver fails to filter the impurities in the blood the build up of waste products give rise to brain disorders like drowsiness, restlessness, confusion and coma. You may also bleed easily to bruise excessively due to the reduced platelet count. The blood becomes thin and does not coagulates easily when there is injury. But lower platelets counts can also signify several other illness.
Ascites can also be the sign of liver failure when lots of fluid gets accumulated in the abdominal cavity. But unfortunately, even this is not the confirmed sign as Ascites can also be the sign for failing heart or other conditions.
Other very common signs would be deteriorating health with inability to think and remember and more prone to common illness. There would be general feeling of weakness, loss of appetite, nausea and fatigue. The worst part is the patient will experience other organ failure as for the normal functioning of the body the organs are inter dependent.
One needs to sought medical assistance at at earliest before it turns out to be incurable. In some cases taking proper medication would be enough while in others you may need to go for a liver transplant.
