Pancreas an organ deeply seated in the abdomen is small but a very important organ that produces enzymes and hormones. The enzymes combine with the bile juice form bile duct and this fluid aids digestion in small intestine. The hormone insulin is released by pancreas which controls body sugar levels.
Pancreatic cancer is less dangerous as compared to other cancer types but the difficulty in detection makes it most life threatening. But if detected early can be treated successfully and the patient is cured completely. Middle aged and older people are more prone to this disease and rarely affects the younger people, and therefore the diagnosis is missed in them.
There are several hurdles that deter people to identify the early signs of pancreatic cancer. The pancreas normally functions till the cancerous tumor has grown in a considerable sign to show noticeable symptoms. This indicate the cancer has already reached to critical stage and started interfering in the normal functioning of the digestive organs and also obstructs the production of enzymes and insulin.
Most of the pancreatic symptoms are also common to some conditions like gall stones, hepatitis, irritable bowel syndrome, stress and adrenal cancer. The symptoms will depend on the position where the cancer is affecting like if it affecting an area of pancreas near the bile duct then then symptom of jaundice will appear. But if it is not placed near the bile duct then the signs or symptoms will not appear until and unless it has grown and is spreading rapidly.
Nausea, abrupt loss of weight and appetite are the three early signs one should not ignore. It is strange but a telling sign of pancreatic cancer is itching sensation over the torso section. Pain in the abdomen, lower back, constant tiredness and digestive problems due to the obstruction of pancreatic enzymes. Also there can be black tarry tools due to bleeding in upper intestine, darkening of skin color, development of new hair, decomposing or shifting location of fat and arthritis.
Understanding the difficulties involved in identifying the early symptoms, one should be careful enough to consult the doctor if they spot any of these signs without delay.
