A skin rash is a change in the color and/or texture of the skin. It may be due to different factors, such as allergic reactions, friction, exposure to heat and moisture, infections, medications and contact with chemicals or other irritants.
Skin rashes usually involve reddened skin that may be inflamed with blisters, bumps or pimples. They are sometimes itchy and may flake, scale, peel or weep fluid. Some may be painful or cause a stinging sensation. In severe cases, the rash may crack or bleed.

Causes
- Allergy to dyes and chemicals in clothing
- Chemicals present in elastic, latex and rubber products
- Reaction to cosmetics, perfumes, soaps and detergents
- Heat rash

- Anxiety
- Skin contact with an irritant
- Food allergy
- Bacterial or viral infection, e.g., by the viruses that cause chickenpox, smallpox, cold sores and measles

Symptoms
- Little red bumps

Natural Cures
- Apply olive oil to the affected area, it would penetrate the skin and cure the rash.
- Apply Aloe Vera gel or pulp, on the affected region. This would be very helpful in treating the body rash.
- Apply baking soda on the affected body part. After applying it, press the area gently. It would provide relief from the irritation and also cure the rash.
- A poultice made from yellow dock root, chaparral and dandelion would be effective in treating skin rashes. Take a handful of herb and blend in the mixer, with water, to form a puree. Apply on the affected area and cover with cheesecloth or bandage.
- Blend 10-15 basil leaves with 1 tbsp olive oil, 2 garlic cloves, salt and pepper. Apply a coat of this mixture on the rashes.
Treatments
- Corticosteroid medications help lessen inflammation.
- Phototherapy, is used to treat some skin rashes, such as those resulting from psoriasis, by exposing the patient in controlled circumstances to ultraviolet light waves over a period of time.
- Antibiotics can be used to treat skin rashes caused by underlying bacterial infections. The entire course of prescribed antibiotics should be taken, even if symptoms improve, to prevent recurrence.
- Antihistamines block the release of histamines into the body. Histamines cause the symptoms, including some skin rashes, occur during an allergic reaction or other immune system responses.
